Is Malfoy a death eater?

Malfoy was supposed to kill Dumbledore for Voldmort but he couldn't so Snape did it for him. Does this mean Malfoy's a death eater or was he just proud to be chosen by Voldmort?

In several ways I think Draco Malfoy wants to a Death Eater, but in other ways I don't think he is ready.

The statements he made while talking to Zabini, Crabbe, Goyle, and Pansy Parkinson suggested to me that he wasn't officially a Death Eater. He said that even though he wouldn't be a fully qualified wizard that Voldemort wouldn't care, but would care that he was a loyal follower. It seems like more or less that he had to kill Dumbledore or be killed if he didn't succeed. However it doesn't sound like he is in a situation where if he left a group that he would be killed. I think he was just given that one task.

Actions like those that Voldemort had in GoF suggest that he wants people to follow him, but he wants them to be confident and reliable. He seemed to hate inconfidence. So I think that would be reason enough for him to not have Draco as a member yet.

i think he is trying to become a death eater but he is not one yet. He has tha dark mark but i don't think he is emotionaly ready to be one. in the book, JKR described him as "paler than usual" and didn't make as much coments to Harry as before. He was getting wea kfrom being a death eater and i think taht information will play an important role in book 7.

Look, of course he wants to be a death eater...but there's the thing that he's too young. And I don't think Voldie wants amateur wizards hepling him! One more thing...Draco + Mad Eye = Ferret Boy!!!
Sorry...that didn't have anything to do with the topic!!! I just had to get that out...that was my favorite part of the book and movie!!!
And no Draco isn't a death eater...yet???

I think he maybe. Remember his arm hurt when he was having his robes sized. Even if Voldy hasn't fully made him a DE he has branded him to make Draco think that he has been accepted into the fold. I think that would be the only way he could get Draco to feel powerful enough to think he could overcome DD.

I have a one younger brother that married the first of this month! He is 25 and he says that he is my big brother. Of course he goes on that because now instead of being the shrimp I use to pick on he is 6'5" and 200 lb of muscle. Hey if he would just say he was older than me it would be all good! wink

If you read HBP i think it will tell you that he IS a death eater, but the only reason hwe was even considered is as a pUNISHMENT to Lucius for screwing up so badly.

LV believed that Draco would be killed during the attempt on DD and thus he would have his revenge on Lucius!!

I agree with you, Locky. I don't think that Voldy thought that DD would kill Draco, but I think that he thought Draco would turn tail and run, and possibly be hit by a stray AK curse. I think he wanted Lucius to suffer and not just in Azkaban. I have a feeling that Lucius will be out of Azkaban in the last book. grin

I wonder, I just wonder, if Lucius would protect Draco if Voldy came right out and was going to kill him, or if he would be a coward and turn his head? tongue

JKR has said somewhere, that we will see more of Lucius in book seven

I totally agree, but has still been branded.

He did get through the stairs remember.

JKR has also said that he would not have killed DD and that he is somewhat like Regellas Black, in that he went so far and did not like what he saw.

But then when he got picked for Slytherin, the hat had bearly touched his head when it said he was in Slytherin. So it might be that he is just a little too young.

Dont forget that to be in the Order of the Pheonix, that you have to be a certain age and not neccesarily OF AGE
