I don't really mind what people call him though in the wizarding world I find it funny the way Ron and Hermione wince at the name like everyone else and only Harry and Dumbledore can say Voldermort without staking!

It's because they're all babies about it and why the heck did they make Hermione say, "Fear of a name yada yada" when she doesn't even go by that herself because she's afraid of the NAME "Voldemort"! Wasn't that supposed to be Dumbledore's line anyway?

not to mention its a name that TR/LV chose and its just a name of a character of a fiction series of novels

i just TR/LV because its shorter and JKR has said she hates it when people call TR/LV Voldy. so TR/LV for me (if you notice not actually using the name)

yeah I was gonna write that myself but thank you for saying it lockyfan. Voldy makes him sound some kind of a joke which he is not and I perfectly agree with J.K.Rowling for feeling mad at people doing so! And as for the name Voldemort, I agree calling him you-know-Who instead is an insult to the memory of Dumbledore. But even Harry doesn't just make jokes about Voldemort nor does he take the name lightly just because he uses it.

Look guys, I am not saying that we shouldn't use the name at all.
I am just saying we shouldn't use it lightly or make jokes about it. Voldemort is a very important character and also the most terrible one and it would be disrespectful to Rowling and the Harry Potter series if we keep calling him Voldy and stuff like that. Blushing

Anyways, coming back on topic - I think that people would have been afraid of saying the name of Voldemort, because maybe he had cast some sort of spell on his name so that he could trace out his enemies whenever they took his name.

Otherwise there is no logic that someone should be afraid of taking the name of someone or something.
