Divination is a class that I don't think there is an actual use for because a cross is suppose to be a religious thing but in Divination it means Enternal Suffering. The shape of a dog means the Grim also meaning you are suppose to die soon but Dog's are a symbolization of Protection, loyalty, trust and determination. A dog is also refered to as a Gaurdian.

Well Ginny_Black,

Welcome to PottersRealm to PottersRealm.com

In the world, different symbols have different meanings. It depends from culture to culture - for example the colour green is for jealousy in the western world, but in many oriental countries, green is for prosperity and birth.

possibly but it was just a coinsidence that sirius was a big dog looking like a grim, the symbol was of a grim might have been more distinctive, foreseeing death.
