I must agree that the Harry Potter books are really great works but I also feel that we must not forget the Lord of the Ring and the Hobbit.

Harry Potter has carved a niche for itself in a very short span of time/ Also the books have managed to bring the younger generation back to reading. LOTR, The Hobbit, The Dark Materials etc. are masterpieces in their own right.

As a lit major, I'm afraid that I would have to disagree. The Harry Potter series is wonderful, but it just wouldn't be true to say it is the best literature ever written. Even Jo wouldn't be that presumptuous. There are many books out there that can easily compete with it; Jibran just named a few of them.

wizard I agree, but Eragon, The Dragon Riders of Pern were also good books. The 3 book series The Iron Toewer Trilogy by Dennis L. McKiernan is also good. wizard

My brothers (I have four - all younger) have all been pestering me to read the Inheritance trilogy (the one begining with Eragon). I have heard so many good accounts of it that I'll probably read it eventually. But I want to wait untill the last one comes out. Harry Potter gave me all the suspense of that kind I'll need for one life. smile They think I'm lame, but I told them I wouldn't read them unless the main boy gets the girl. I do love a good romance. But he might not; it might be a little bit too Arwen and Aragorn.

The last came out in the Summer of 2006 if I'm not mistaken.

Geez, no wonder I decided to wait till they all came out. :)Well, when they do, I'll read them. There are only going to be three if I'm not mistaken, right?
