Emma Charlotte Duerre Watson was born in Oxfordshire, UK, on the 15th April 1990, to parents Jacqueline and Chris. Moving to France, she lived there for five years, then returned to live in England. Emma currently lives with her mother (her parents are divorced), her brother Alex (12) and her two cats, Bubbles and Domino.

Emma was an eager and hardworking student at school, taking on many lead roles in school plays, and helping out in other school activities. At seven years old, Emma came first in a school poetry recital. Emma heard about the role of Hermione Granger, when her head teacher had nominated her to audition when the casting office visited her school. Originally only auditioning for fun, the more auditions she participated in, the more serious it became. Being up against thousands of other young actresses, she finally received a call telling her she had got the part.

Emma has starred in all four Harry Potter films to date, and has been confirmed to play Hermione Granger in Order of the Phoenix.
